Every child has the right to read, and literacy is a gateway to opportunity. The Ready Readers Storytime Program shares the joy and power of books and reading with young children living in under-resourced St. Louis communities through a weekly, volunteer-led classroom storytime. Our volunteer readers play a key role in fostering a lifelong love of reading and learning in young minds!
No experience required!
- All volunteers receive training before getting started in the classroom.
- Volunteers read once per week in an assigned classroom and commit to a full school year.
- Each weekly storytime lasts about 30 minutes.
- This program is designed for children 6 years old and younger.
- All storytimes take place on weekdays and morning availability is preferred (but not required).
Because literacy is a human right.
Reading is the foundation of all other learning!
Only 55% of children ages 0-5 have a family member read books aloud to them at least five days a week.

Volunteer readers are assigned a classroom of children under age 5 at a local early childhood center.
Volunteers visit their class on the same day and time each week to lead a 30-minute storytime.
Ready Readers provides training, support, and resources to ensure that you have a fun and successful experience.
